RAU-8 asphalt-concrete mix produced and applied for the first time02-08-2021 On July 30, 2021, experimental RAU-8 (German for “harsh”, “rough”) asphalt mix was applied for the first time by JSC “Tatavtodor”. The mix was developed by the central laboratory of our company to aim optimum quality and cost-effectiveness, and produced at “Aeroport” asphalt-concrete plant in Suburban branch.
One of the main characteristics of new RAU-8 mix is that it contains more bitumen and less or minimum stabilizer. A thick film forms on the mineral surface due to addition of more bitumen to the mix. The film practically does not wear, thus allowing construction of much more durable surfaces.
Mineral aggregate for RAU mix was selected specifically to provide high resistance to the deformation from the wheels of heavy transport. The field tests showed very good results, and we can state that RAU mix is as good as stone mastic asphalt (ЩМАс) and is highly resistant to plastic deformation such as rutting. According to our European colleagues, RAU features low noise level and maximum road adhesion, at the same time estimated cost of this mix should be lower than stone mastic asphalt now used, and we plan to substitute it with RAU in future.      |
